I don't believe that any boogyman, or fear of evil, should be given sufficient emphasis to cancel fundamental principles of democracy. Just as the boogyman of "international terrorism" does not justify lying to start a war, use of torture, indefinite confinement, abrogation of habeas corpus or spying on Americans, the specter of a flood does not justify abrogating the rights of the people to vote in secret, and to be free of taxation without consent.
Ross Valley voters deserve an apology

Not only should we protect the weaker among us, but we should never exploit their vulnerability, no less the integrity of our democratic process, to obtain a particular aim or result. To so do is neither fair nor democratic.
